Prelims & Finals (:

This last Monday we had our second to last track meet at Kings. It was prelims. The only race I ran at this meet was the 800, because all my other events I ran on Wednesday. The 800 race began with a bang and we took off. This one girl from Granite Falls who is super fast was in front of me the entire time. Last year during the track season she beat me with converse on! She's just naturally fast i guess. I took second place in the 800 race. On Wednesday we returned to Kings to finish up the season with Finals as our last meet. This meet I ran the 1600 and the 1 by 400 meter relay. The first race I ran was the 1600. The gun went off and I was right behind that one girl I told you about from Granite Falls who is SUPER fast. Then the second lap came and I slowly started to fall further and further behind her. By the middle of the 3rd lap I was starting to feel the tiredness kick in, but i kept going and ending the race with a 4 second personal record of the season(: I was pretty happy! My time was 5:58. Then our relay came next, Anna and I had a good hand off. I was a little scared that we were gonna mess up so I'm glad we didn't. Anna Handed off to Lindsey, then Sarah ran anchor and we finished in 3rd. I'm glad track is over, it seemed like a really long season, but I'm glad I did it.

Westward Expansion Speech Reflection

Did you stand up straight but stay relaxed?
Yes, I did a pretty good job of standing up straight and keeping relaxed.

Did you pause for a moment before you began your speech?
No I didn't. I started talking right away.

Did you look at your audience?
A little, but mostly I was looking at the computer. I looked back and forth from the audience to the computer.

Did you let your facial expressions naturally reflect what you were saying?
No. my facial expression stayed the same the whole time.

Did you use your hands?
I did not use my hands to contribute to what I saying. I used my hand to point to a person with an answer but that was it.

Did you speak loudly enough so that everyone could hear you?
Yes. I think I did.

Did you change your tone to show how you felt (upset, excited) about an idea or to emphasize a point?
Not really. I mainly had to same tone through out the presentation.

Was your speed of delivery too fast, too slow or just right?
It seemed just right. I didn't speak too fast that I stumbled over my words.

Did you practice your speech at home before giving it?
I practiced my speech only once. I went over it a few times in my head.

What did you notice that you did well in your speech?
I did well at speaking the information from the top of my head. I think I did well at speaking clearly and loud enough also.

Describe one aspect of public speaking you will work to improve?
Use my hands to help with what I'm saying. I could improve by making my presentation last longer. Also I could improve by including more information in my presentation and in practicing my presentation before presenting it.

What image do you have of pioneer living?
Having lots of animals. Living with only things that are necessary. Entertaining yourself, and playing outside a lot.

What's the most challenging thing you and your family (or group) have experienced?
Family health problems.

If you were chosen what do you think you would most miss about modern life?
I think I would miss watching my t.v. shows. I also think i would miss being able to use the computer. I would miss wearing regular every day clothes.

What qualities do you and your family have that make you suited to this experience?

What skills do you have that may help you?
Knowing how to take care of many animals.

What would you hope to get out of the experience?
I would want to get out of it that life isn't all about electronics and that it's possible to be even happier without the extra things in life.

What do you think will be the most difficult challenge of pioneer life?
Being away from friends.

How to kill a chicken and watch it run around with no head.

My Fish!:(

Last summer at my birthday party Maia Sparkman gave me three goldfish. I was super excited!!! I named them Lettuce, Cat and Dog. The gold one was Lettuce. The black and orange ones were Cat and Dog. I watched them swim around their little bowl over and over. Later that night i came into the kitchen and looked at the bowl. There was a problem, I couldn't see through the bowl. Madison decided to feed my fish. She practicly fed them enough food to last a lifetime! Madison was standing right beside me and she was like " Look, i fed your fish!" I was like " wow! ya you did." Then my mom cleaned out the fish bowl and their fish bowl was all clean. The next day, i guess that the bowl was still a little dirty because my dad emptied all three fish into a cup and placed it on the counter. I came down stairs and not knowing, dumped the cup of water down the sink. After that incident I looked at my fish bowl. Then I asked Charley were my fish were, after I heard, I was like WHAT! So I ran to the sink, thank god i didn't turn on the garbage disposal. I reached my hand down the sink, super fast! and pulled out an orange fish. He was still ALIVE! i was soooo happy! Then I saved the other fishies after Lettuce. There was one downfall though, they were kind of huffing and puffing. They were not breathing like normal fishies. And then when I put them all in that clean bowl, they just layed there, with an occasional quiver of a fin. :( The next morning I awoke to 3 dead fishies. It was not a good thing. I flushed them so if they were still alive, they made it to the ocean, you know like Nemo. All drains lead to the ocean, everybody know that. And then they'd have TONS of other fish friends, and best of all they wouldn't have to live in a bowl.

Sci-Fi MONSTER!

My Sci-Fi monster’s name is Teddy. He is shaped as a teddy bear. Teddy stands approximately 9 inches tall. On top of Teddy’s head, between his two ears, are two devil horns. The horns are red. Between the two horns is a red and orange flame. Teddy’s head is tilted so the left ear is higher than the right one. From one ear to the other there is about 5 inches. The ears are rounded circles, on the top of Teddy’s left ear is a rip. Spilling out of the rip is purple stuffing. On Teddy’s face, in between his ears, are his two eyes. The eyes are around 3 cm. apart form each other, and each eye is 3 cm. long and 1 cm. tall. The outside of the eye, that acts as the white part of our eye, is yellow. Inside the yellow there is an vertical oval that is blue. Inside the vertical blue oval is a horizontal red oval. Under Teddy’s right eye is a tear that has purple stuffing pouring out of it. 1 inch down from the inner corner of his eyes is Teddy’s nose. It is dark brown and shaped like an upside down triangle. His nose is 3 cm. wide. At the point at the end of Teddy’s triangle nose is a vertical line 1 cm. long. Off that vertical line is a 2 cm. horizontal line. One cm. for each side of the vertical line. Off the horizontal line are two red fangs that are shaped as upside down triangle. The base of each triangle is 1 cm. Where his head meets his body is a large rip that has a lot of purple stuffing coming out of it. Teddy’s left arm is in the air and is 2.5 in. long, including his fingers. He has 3 fingers off the end of his arm. Under this arm he has more purple stuffing pouring out, but not as much stuffing is falling out compared to the rip between his head and body.
Teddy’s arm is approximately 2 cm. thick. Then in between this arm and the other arm is 1.5 in. of his body. His right arm is folded so his elbow is sticking out and his hand is on his body. About one cm. down from his head is a green button that is ½ cm. all around. The button has a purple trim, and one button hole where the string goes through, is red and the other is blue. The next button 1 ½ cm. directly down form the first button is green with a blue rim and one red button hole and the other a purple button hole. The 3rd button is slightly to Teddy’s right and is hanging by a string. The button is green with a red trim the button holes are blue and purple. Around 1 in. 1 cm. down from the 3rd button is the end of his body. Off the left side of his body is his leg that sticks out straight to the left. It is 1 cm. thick, off the leg is a foot that is oval shaped and pointing upward. Across from that leg is the right leg, in between the two legs is 2 in. of body. The right leg has a tear wear is meets the body and purple stuffing is spilling out. The leg hangs downward and is 1 cm. thick and has a foot coming off the end that’s shaped like an oval. The leg and the foot together is about 1.5 in. Same with the left leg.

Christmas Break

During the part of break when we had snow, I went sledding everyday. Our neighbor has a really steep hill that we sled down. At the bottom of the hill there is a fence, so it hurt pretty bad when I couldn't figure out how to stop the sled. On our neighbors hill there are two of those light up deer so at night we could still sled. The deers were actually really bright, but not like so bright that they could blind you. At night my mom came outside with me and we sled down the hill in garbage bags. it works! One day all the kids from our neighborhood went over to the big hill and we played capture the flag in the snow. It was fun! But its really hard to run fast when the snow is 14 inches deep. Our fish pond got completely frozen over so Charley and I would walk across the top and you could jump on it while you were in the middle and it still wouldn't break. My trampoline started to sink to the ground with all the snow so we had to shovel the snow off so the snow wouldn't stretch it out. My dad helped me and Charley build an igloo. We shoveled a huge pile of snow! Then me and Charley had to dig it out from the outside in. It took a super long time! So I got bored and stopped digging, I ditched them and went inside to watch Mamma Mia. On Christmas Eve my Grandmamoma, Grams and the Bergquists came over for dinner. Charley, Anders, Olin and I watched Hancock. Then when we got back from church we got to open all our presents. Before Christmas my family and I went over to town and saw all my cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Then we had another Christmas with my other cousins on the island. On New Years day I jumped into Goss Lake. It was freezing! That was most of my break. I also hung out with friends a few times in the two weeks.
